Rating  - The audio is terrible, otherwise very nice
Even though a number of reviewers have commented on the substandard audio, I figured "how bad could it be?". Make no mistake, this is the absolute worst TV audio known to mankind. A portable AM radio speaker would be 10x better. Seriously. Do not even think about using this TV with the built-in speakers. You will be sorry.
The good news? After connecting my living room stereo system to it I was much happier. Everything else about this unit is very nice. Once I upgraded the audio I was very satisfied with my purchase.
Rating  - this TV changed how i view the world
this tv is unbelievable. first let me say that. it has a beautiful picture and very easy to use (even though there are a million types of settings)
buying off amazon was great as well. the CEVA delivery service called me to schedule a time that worked for me and the delivery guys called when they were close by (since i was at work). they set up the tv where i wanted and made sure it worked.
the tv required no initial set up and worked right away. i have my xbox hooked up to it and it looks amazing
i am very satisfied with this purchase and i have recommended amazon to all my friends for making the transaction very easy
Rating - Simply Awesome!
A few days ago I purchased a Sony KDL40S4100 but returned it and replaced it with this beautiful set. I was experiencing some problems with ghosting and blacks when viewing HDDVD's on the Sony.
This set leaps beyond the Sony. I was downsizing from a 46 to a 40 inch set and originally wanted this one. I had good luck with my previous Sony so that was why I got the second Sony (the one I returned). Bad decision.
You literally pull this set out of the box (stand pre-assembled) and plug it in. It does a search of over-the-air of which I get about 7 in HD and cable.
I threw in a couple of blu-ray movies and was very very impressed to say the least (I have a Samsung dual-player with hdmi - no issues).
Sound isn't the greatest but I have a sound system already and it sounds great!
I also did the 2 firmware updates from the Samsung website. No known issues so far.
For the money, this is a wonderful set. I would highly recommend it to anyone considering an HDTV purchase.
Technology has sure changed the way we watch tv in the past few years. Do I care that this set isn't bigger? No. Do I care that it isn't 120 Hz? No. What I care about is that I am able to enjoy movie theater quality tv viewing in the comfort of my own home and at a fairly reasonable price.

Check Amazon delivery date up front prior to buying. The delivery date provided by Amazon email after purchase was outside the standard 3- 5 business days. I spent over an hour (3 separate phone calls) trying to speak to a customer service person that could explain why. When I finally got connected to someone in the United States, she explained that you get the 1st customer service person and you can not get transferred. I had a choice of other tv providers and will NOT use Amazon next time.

Samsung LN40A550 40-Inch 1080p LCD HDTV
I selected the model which is not the most recent because of numerous reviews about the matte non-reflective qualities of the screen compared with the newer A650. I also was impressed with the reviews on this and other sites. I am not at all disappointed. Even with large amounts of light coming through the very-nearby windows, the picture is clearly viewable without reflections. I am very happy with this. In general for my needs (satellite HD signal) this set is terrific. It provides a great picture with HD source, and very good with SD source, as well.
The previously noted limitations of the inputs are not, for me significant, but depending on your set-up, I would consider checking out detailed descriptions or images of the inputs. In this regard, also, there is a somewhat limited ability to change the names of inputs as they appear on the on-screen menu. I cannot comment on the sound, as I run the sound through a BOSE 3-2-1 unit. The set is also extremely attractive in design.
Over all, I have no complaints with this set. On the contrary, I am extremely happy with it. I would absolutely recommend it. I also want to compliment Amazon's delivery service. Considering that their price was among the lowest, it included "white-gove" service, which is to say, carrying the unit up to its installation location, unpacking and setting up, and removing packing materials. And, as the first set arrived with cosmetic damage, Amazon rapidly replaced it with a new one, which arrived equally rapidly, and was installed equally efficiently and pleasantly.
