Customer Reviews for: Leatherman 830846 Skeletool Multitool

Rating 5 out of 5 - Great Tool
I've enjoyed the Wave Tool for quite some time now but the weight was a little heavy in my pocket. Now I have the Skeletool and it is great! As a studio artist, I find this multi-tool is perfect. It is simple, light, and has style. Whether in performing maintenance on equipment or opening a beer at the end of the day, the Skeletool is a wonderful tool.

Thanks, Chris

Rating 4 out of 5 - Finally
I've always found the full size Leatherman multitools to be exceptionally great products that I've wanted to own, with one gigantic exception...they're too heavy. Carrying one in your pocket was uncomfortable because its weight was enough that it felt like it was noticeably tugging at your pants, as if you had several dollars in change in there. So the only comfortable option was to carry it on a belt pouch which I find to be annoying and too much of a hassle. The new Skeletools are much lighter than the traditional Leatherman and you can comfortable carry it in your pocket without noticing its presence. The knife blade opens easily with one hand and the screwdriver has a exchangeable bit ingeniously stashed in the frame. Overall this is a great tool and I'm glad to say that I've finally found the Leatherman that I've always wanted. The only downside is that it has substantially less tools than the Surge and after studying the layout, it looks like they could have added one more tool without sacrificing any additional weight. Regardless, this is a fantastic multitool and its been in my pocket since the day it arrived.

Rating 5 out of 5 - Skeletool skelerocks!
Being part man, part monkeyboy, and part lizardbrain, I'm very susceptible to tool lust. If a tool is metal and/or shiney, bonus. If the tool can fit in a black case on my belt, bonus. If the tool in any way at all folds, big bonus! If the tool has a blade in it somewhere, bigger bonus. And if the tool has a sinister sounding name, SUPER BONUS!

Enter Leatherman's Skeletool. Let me say that slowly: skel - eh - tool! It's like a spooky old skeleton, but it's a tool! Nice, right? Plus it has all the naughty lusty features (see above) that immediately had me reaching for my wallet.

Trust me, it is even better in person. And after it was revealed at work, nobody with a Y-chromosome could resist playing with my skeletool. Every chimpy monkey lizard boy at the office took a turn opening it and clipping it on their belt and folding out the knife and playing with the locking mechanism. The cool kids figured out that the loop on one handle can also be a bottle opener. The uberbrainiacs noticed the extra screwdriver bit cleverly concealed in the handle, too. Every male loved it. Every male wanted one. (I should have sold it at a substantial profit while the lust was upon them!)

Two features I didn't mention: it is very very light but very very rugged. Not the least bit flimsy even considering its lack of heft.

Two features I didn't like: the price is a smidgen steep ($80+ with the case) and the removable bit is so thin it is hard to grip/extract sometimes.

All in all, a most manly investment. Slightly expensive however pleasing to wield and a pleasure to taunt the other chimps with!

Rating 1 out of 5 - Design over Function
When I ordered this tool, I thought it would be a handy pocket carry tool. I was disappointed in several areas.. First, the extra blade for the screwdriver just slides into a slot on the outside of the tool. It will slide out, you will lose it. Mine slid out the first hour. Second, the clip to hold the tool in the pocket it too short, too thin, and not stiff/strong enough to safely hold the tool in your pocket. You stand to lose the tool if you use the clip. The carabiner type clip may be a workaround for the weak pocket clip, but only if you don't mind having a tool hanging off your belt that can scratch your car's paint and tear the upholstery. Third, it costs more and does less than the original leatherman. It looks cool, but tools are about function not looks. All this tool has, after you lose the screwdriver blades, is a pliers with an awkward grip, an awkward knife and a poor bottle opener. I rate this a sad 1 star. Sad because I have been a leatherman fan and user for years. I expected better from them.
