Rating  - Just like new.
The Factory-Reconditioned Dyson DC 14 arrived quickly via UPS. There was some assembly required, and the booklet's drawing displayed the handle on the wrong side of the machine. The photos provided an accurate picture of the end result, and all was well. It was a little tricky trying to figure out where the attachments went, but eventually they popped into place, too.
It works as well as I had hoped. I cannot tell that this is not a new vacuum. The pieces are perfect and it works beautifully. It is easy to empty. I am very pleased with the purchase, and very pleased about the savings.
Rating  - Beware: Defective Clutch Problems - Dyson Will Not Repair
The Dyson does a good job and people love it.
HOWEVER....
This model has a design problem with the clutch, causing it to make a grinding noise at first, and quickly fail after that.
My unit went through 3 clutches in just over 1 year. Dyson repaired the first 2, but after their 6-month warranty period (beware of reconditioned units with a short warranty!) they no longer cover repairs. I have had to pay $150 twice in the last 6 months for clutch replacement. The repair center says that this is very common and that Dyson no longer used this clutch in new designs. He also tried to talk me into trading the Dyson for a different brand. Given that I'd only get $50 in trade-in, I declined.
2 warnings:
- Beware of the faulty clutch design
- Keep in mind that Dyson will not honor the warranty for these reconditioned units that Amazon sells
Rating - AWESOME VACUUM!!!
I must say that I've only had the Dyson DC14 a short time, but the first time I used it, I fell in love! It was very easy to assemble and this has to be the easiest vacuum to push over carpet that I've ever used. The suction is great. I couldn't believe that some reviews said that the suction was bad. I've owned three different vacuums, including Hoover, over the last 7 years. Every one of them lost suction in one year no matter how clean I tried to keep it. Granted, I've not had this vacuum long enough to confirm it doesn't lose suction, but I do have a friend who has had hers for three years now and she said it works like the day she bought it. It's also quieter than any vacuum I've used. I can vacuum my living room and bedroom without fear that my one year old son will wake up. This vacuum is definitely worth the money!!!
Rating - Dyson Vacuum is great
I own a commercial cleaning business and all of our vehicles use dysons. They save us a ton of money on bags and perform very well.
