Customer Reviews for: Down from the Mountain (The 'O Brother, Where Art Thou?' Concert)

Rating 5 out of 5 - Wonderful concert

I am so pleased with this DVD. I see it 2 -3 times a week!
Grate performance with supreme artist I just love Alison Kraus and this DVD.

Rating 5 out of 5 - "Music from the Movie O Brother Where Art Thou?"
This is an outstanding "Masterpiece" consisting of a documentary of the making of the music in the "O Brother Where Art Thou" movie and in the "Soundtrack" CD to the movie plus an ACTUAL CONCERT OF THIS MUSIC. REMEMBER THIS SOUNDTRACK WAS THE GRAMMY ALBUM OF THE YEAR FOR THE YEAR 2001!!! It was produced by the legendary "roots" producer T.Bone Bunnett.

There have already been plently of reviews on this one, so I won't go into detail. It starts out as a documentary, in Nashville's Famous Rhyman Auditorium , and shows T.Bone Burnett directing the rehersing and sound checks of this music.

The next portion is footage of an actual concert that was performed in the Rhyman Auditorium. The performances range from "Blues" to "Bluegrass" to "Gospel". The MC is "cool", he was introduced in the documentary portion. He is an actual "Tug-Boat" Captain, and does an excellent job of MC"ing the concert.

Some of the performers include: Gillian Welch, Allison Krass and Union Station, EmmyLou Harris, the Fairfield Four (actually 5), The Cox Family, Chris Thomas King (He was actually in the movie and played the role of "Tommy Johnson"), The Peasall Sisters, Ralph Stanley, the Whites, John Hartford, Colin Linden and David Rawlings.

If you like "roots" music or the movie "O Brother Where Art Thou", then I'm sure you'll really enjoy this one. I know I enjoy it very much, and therefore I recommend it.

Rating 3 out of 5 - It could have been a brilliant DVD.
Unfortunately the production looks as though it was done by the Beverly Hillbillies. Buy Alison Krauss & Union Station - Live, then compare to this. It pales by comparison. I liked it, but I was frustrated and angered at the editing. It's still a good concert but the needless interruption of performances to view backstage was, without a doubt, the worst thing I've ever seen. It makes the Cox family look stupid. Maybe that was on purpose. They should apologize to Chris Thomas King and the Cox family, who are brilliant artists. This contains the music from Oh Brother Where Art Thou, yet, it's missing The Soggy Bottom Boys and Man of Constant Sorrow. Why?

Rating 4 out of 5 - A great Show
Its a pleasure to see so much talent on show at a concert. There is a good bit of introductory material and then a straightforward concert without pyrotechnics or disconcerting camera work. For one who saw this on tour, it was a real nostalgia trip as well. Highly recommended and share it with your friends.Bluegrass
