The food comes out fantastic. It is simple to use, easy clean up. I recommend this product highly.
Rating - Showtime rotisserie
We looove this rotisserie. First thing we cooked was a turkey that turned out perfect. We've had the compact one for two years and have cooked roasts, chickens, game hens, etc. that turn out perfect. We cook them in the garage all summer so we don't have to heat up the kitchen or endure the heat outside using the barbecue. Very easy to use and clean.
Rating - Never thought I'd buy a Ronco product...
After eight years of weekly use, my George Foreman rotisserie was finally retired after the plastic fittings broke off due to heat. The Foreman was a very good product for the money, but I wanted something more suited to my apartment lifestyle. So after a year rotisserie-less, I tried the Ronco Showtime, and I have to say: Why did I wait?
The Showtime is still cheaply made, but somewhat more durable than its competitors and with fewer parts that might overheat and break off. It's very easy to set up though the very thorough packaging might prove frustrating for some users. The first thing to break on my old Foreman was the analog dial which was the sole control. I appreciate the digital controls on the Showtime, but I'm concerned about heat damage later on. One feature I love, is the ability to "park" the spit off the gears in order to check temperature, add spice, etc. My only real beef is the door: For someone like me, it's a little bit fragile. However, it does swing completely under the unit and out of the way.
As for its effectiveness as a cooking tool, well, I am a cook of very few gadgets. I have a slow cooker, a rice cooker, and the Showtime, and I will use the Showtime much more than the other two. I took it right out of the box and made a tasty tri-tip roast that had my wife and the cat both salivating. Tonight I'm going to try chicken breasts.
A few words of advice. First, the Showtime comes with a bunch of gimmicks that you will never use. The "flavor injector" is basically useless because injectable marinades usually come with one. Take my advice and throw away the "BBQ gloves." They're cheap, chemical-smelling plastic. Go to your local DIY warehouse and invest 15 bucks in some professional welder's gloves. One thing this unit lacks, is any way to easily remove the spit from the oven. Fortunately, all the old fittings from my Foreman, including the metal handle gizmo, can be made to work with the Showtime.
Also, don't bother with the larger model that has a "steamer tray" on top. The tray appears to be just plastic and I don't think it will work that well. Stick with the compact, easy-to-use model profiled here.
Rating - Great Unit
This is the second Ronco Platinum Rotisserie we have purchased. We love chicken and pork loins done this way so decided to buy a replacement. The first one died after 4+ years of use. The wires burned off the heating element. Hope this one lasts longer. Otherwise is would be a 5* product.
